Jeremy is Head of Strategic Technologies. His responsibilities cover the strategic development of the Janet network and the management of a technical programme that identifies emerging technologies and then develops production services.

Janet Update
Jeremy and Tim Kidd will briefly outline the operational and development work undertaken in Janet over the past year and cover some key work in the year ahead.
Janet6 Project
Janet6 represents the largest project Janet has undertaken in its 28-year history, and after signing fibre and equipment contracts in the Summer of 2012 work to build and commission the new network will be approaching completion by the time of Networkshop41. In this session, Jeremy Sharp will begin by giving an overview of the Janet6 programme of work, why we needed a new network and how Janet went about gathering the requirements for that network. Rob Evans will describe how those requirements were translated through to a network design during the process of competitive dialogue with potential suppliers. Mark Corney of SSET will then relate how that design led to the construction of a national fibre network. Simon Allder of Ciena will describe how Janet's requirements and specifications led to the design of the transmission equipment on Janet6. Neil Shewry will then outline some of the challenges that have been overcome during the building of Janet6 before Jeremy Sharp concludes the presentation with a look at how Janet sees the network developing over the coming years.
